Design Vision

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Campbell is known for its lively downtown and weekly farmers market. Nearby, Campbell Park offers a popular public gathering space with frontage along Los Gatos Creek and access to a regional bike and pedestrian trail connecting neighboring communities. Despite their close proximity, these two high-traffic destinations remain disconnected—both physically and experientially.

The Innovation Ecosystem
“The Orchard” bridges this gap. Inspired by Campbell’s agricultural roots, the project introduces a pedestrian-oriented paseo that links downtown to the park. Lined with high-density housing and flexible ground-floor incubator spaces, the paseo creates a clear, human-scaled connection between activity centers. The shared incubator spaces are designed to support local vendors—particularly those from the farmers market—by providing a pathway toward more permanent brick-and-mortar establishments, advancing local economic development.
The project is guided by Kevin Lynch’s theory of urban legibility, using clear paths, active nodes, and visual landmarks to shape movement and spatial understanding. Each end of the paseo is anchored by interactive public art, establishing focal points that draw people through the space and extend the energy of the downtown toward the Los Gatos Creek Trail.

The introduction of high-density residential uses establishes a consistent, around-the-clock presence, enhancing both perceived safety and public life. By strategically stitching together two of Campbell’s most activated civic spaces, The Orchard reinforces the city’s distinct identity—one rooted in innovation, community, and heritage. The result is a dynamic urban spine that fosters movement, memory, and local economic growth.
